Winter Storm Watch Issued for Casper Area; 5-9 Inches of Snow Possible
A major winter storm is expected to impact Casper, according to a winter storm watch issued Friday by the National Weather Service.
For Casper, Casper Mountain and much of Natrona County, the winter storm watch will be in effect from Sunday morning through Monday morning.
Heavy snow is possible, with accumulations of five to nine inches in lower elevations and 10-15 inches possible on Casper Mountain.
The National Weather Service advises that residents plan on difficult travel conditions. Wind gusts of up to 30 mph could cause patchy blowing and drifting snow.
The NWS also posted a blizzard warning for the northern Snowy Range Foothills, including Arlington and Elk Mountain, which will be in effect from 6 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Sunday.
Ground blizzard conditions are expected in the area Friday night through Saturday night, making travel "very dangerous or impossible."
Wind gusts up to 65 mph will cause areas of significant blowing and drifting snow on I-80 between mile markers 256 and 279, according to the NWS.
Also from Saturday afternoon through late Saturday night, a high wind watch will be in effect for areas including the Wind River Mountains, the Lander Foothills, Green River Mountains, Rattlesnake Range, Casper Mountain, Casper, Lander, Jeffrey City and lower elevations in Natrona County.
