October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and to raise awareness about the epidemic, everyone from the Mayor of Cheyenne to the Laramie County District Attorney donned a pair of high heels Wednesday and walked around the Depot Plaza for Safehouse's 6th Annual "Would You Walk in Her Shoes?" event.

"We want to bring awareness to our community that there is domestic violence victims living amongst us and we need to do everything we can to help them to become a survivor, to get out of the violence and move forward," said Carla Thurin, Executive Director of Safehouse.

Thurin says one in four women will be a victim of domestic violence in their lifetime.

"It could be your mother, it could be your neighbor, it could be your children, it could be anybody that you care about or even maybe you don't know," said Thurin. "Domestic violence isn't just a silent little thing that happens in the home, it affects all of us."

Thurin encourages anyone who's a victim of domestic violence to call Safehouse's confidential 24-hour crisis line at (307) 637-7233.
