Retired Casper Police Officer Jacob Carlson and Officer Randi Garrett will be awarded the Congressional Badge of Bravery by U.S. Senator John Barrasso during a ceremony in Casper.

The shooting happened on May 6, 2018, during a confrontation when officers Jacob Carlson and Randi Garrett were called to a vacant lot near Fairdale Park.

A joint investigation by the Natrona County District Attorney's Office and Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation cleared the officers of wrongdoing.

He is seeking $500,000 in damages for his family members but not himself.

Officer Jacob Carlson spent about a month in the Wyoming Medical Center.

As of Tuesday evening, no lawsuit had been filed, according to the pacer.gov federal court database.

Jacob Carlson said he may do some contract work for the police department, and he's considering taking business classes at Casper College.

Prosecutors have since determined that actions by Casper police during the shooting were justified.

Carlson says doctors expect him to work in limited duty between six months and a year.

With a host of inspiring speakers and honorees, the event raised more than $620.000 for area youth programs.
