A proposed bill that would increase the fuel tax in Wyoming has been submitted to the Wyoming legislature for consideration at the upcoming budget session.

WYDOT officials say they are facing a yearly budget shortfall of $245 million per year.

The bill has the support of the Wyoming Department of Transportation as well as some industry groups, such as the Wyoming Trucking Association. and the Wyoming Association of Municipalities.

The tax would raise an estimated $20 million per year, according to the fiscal note attached to the bill.

The state Department of Transportation estimates the tax increase would bring in about $20 million annually.
