The hunting season for small game and upland bird species will begin September 1st in Wyoming. The 2011 walk-in hunting atlases are also available at state game and fish offices and license agents around the state.

The 2011 Walk-in hunting atlas features thousands of acres of land where hunters can access private lands. The atlas also features hundreds of walk-in areas. According to Mat Buhler, Game and Fish public access coordinator, the most accurate and up to date walk-in atlas is the one featured online. Although big game hunting season is not yet open, enthusiasts will still be able to hunt come September 1st. The 1st will mark the beginning of blue and ruffled grouse and will run through November 30th. Season for mourning doves will also begin on the 1st. To hunt mourning doves one must obtain a federal Harvest Information Program permit and have it in their possession during a hunt. For those interested in small game, that season opens on the 1st as well and includes animals such as rabbits and squirrels. Small game hunting season will conclude at the end of April.
