On July 2nd, at approximately 10:45 am, a single vehicle rollover crash resulted in one fatality. A 2004 Chrysler Town and Country minivan driven by forty year old Carmen Gomez of Craig, Colorado was westbound on Interstate 80 at mile post 73 at the time of the crash. This location is approximately sixteen miles west of Green River, Wyoming.

For reasons that are still under investigation, Gomez lost control of the minivan veering off the interstate and entered in to the median. The vehicle eventually tripped and rolled two complete times. During the rollover, a juvenile female was ejected from and hit by the minivan as it rolled, resulting in the fatality. Carmen Gomez sustained serious injury and was eventually flown to Salt Lake City, Utah for treatment. The other four occupants of the minivan were taken to the hospital for minor injuries only.

The juvenile female was identified as the only person in the minivan that was not using a seat belt at the time of the rollover even though a seat belt was available for her. Speed and condition of the minivan's tires are being investigated as contributing factors for the crash. No charges have been filed at this time as the investigation continues.
