RAWLINS, Wyo. (AP) — Rawlins city officials are considering whether to kill some of the growing deer herd living in the city, estimated at 285 animals.

The Rawlins Times reported Wednesday that some residents worry the deer are a danger to drivers and could spread disease to pets. Others say the deer bring outdoor charm to town life.

The City Council's Urban Mule Deer Advisory Committee laid out the pros and cons of a deer culling program for council members this month. It wasn't immediately clear when the council would make a decision.

One suggestion called for removing 25 to 30 females to limit population growth, with a first-year cost of $16,000 to $23,000.

Officials say the deer numbers are growing because they have no predators and can eat from lawns and gardens.
