The Powder River Rodeo Company from Riverton took home a big-time honor at the PRCA Awards in Las Vegas this week. The stock contractor won the Remuda Award for 2019 given to the firm that provides the best and most consistent pen of bucking horses. Hank and Lori Franzen started the breeding program with Powder River back in 1986 and once again will have stock in this year's National Finals Rodeo. In fact, Hank Franzen always handles his horses in back of the chutes and took a shot to the head from Two Chuck Buck in round one of the NFR on Thursday. Being the tough cowboy that he is, he's all right and will be keeping an eye on a couple of other horses in the NFR, Loaded Deck and Miss Chesnut. Powder River also has a couple of bulls in the NFR, Strange Cargo and Struttin Stuff. The Franzen's have produced top-notch bucking horses for years. Khadafy Skoal was inducted in the ProRodeo Hall of Fame in 2012. Craig at Midnight was the 2016 PRCA Bareback Horse of the Year and the #1 bareback horse in the 2017 NFR. Hank Franzen, by the way, rodeoed at Casper College and was the 1978 College National Finals Champion in bull riding.
