NY Woman Accused of One Fund Scam Due in Court

BOSTON (AP) — A New York woman accused of scamming almost half a million dollars from the fund for Boston Marathon bombing victims is due in Boston Municipal court today for an arraignment.

Audrea Gause had fought extradition from New York after her July 19 arrest. She denies any wrongdoing.

Prosecutors say Gause got a $480,000 check from the fund after claiming she had suffered a traumatic brain injury in the bombings. She allegedly used medical records to show she was treated at Boston and New York hospitals.

Authorities got a tip that Gause may not have been in Boston that day and the hospitals said they didn't treat her.

Authorities are trying to recover the money.
