K2 Radio News: Flash Briefing For December 22nd, 2017 – Morning
WASHINGTON (AP) - PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP IS PROMISING TO WORK WITH DEMOCRATS NEXT YEAR, STARTING WITH SHORING UP THE NATION'S CRUMBLING ROADS AND BRIDGES. HE TWEETED FRIDAY, "I PREDICT WE WILL START WORKING WITH THE DEMOCRATS IN A BIPARTISAN FASHION. INFRASTRUCTURE WOULD BE A PERFECT PLACE TO START." THE STATEMENT OF PRIORITIES CAME AS TRUMP WAS PREPARING TO LEAVE FOR MAR-A-LAGO, HIS RESORT IN FLORIDA. HE IS EXPECTED TO RELEASE A FRAMEWORK FOR INCREASED INFRASTRUCTURE SPENDING IN JANUARY.
PARIS (AP) - AN ASSOCIATED PRESS ANALYSIS FINDS THAT JOURNALISTS APPEAR TO BE AS JUICY A TARGET FOR RUSSIAN HACKERS AS POLITICIANS. AN ANALYSIS OF DATA SUPPLIED BY THE CYBERSECURITY FIRM SECUREWORKS AND INTERVIEWS WITH MORE THAN 40 JOURNALISTS FINDS THAT THE GROUP KNOWN AS FANCY BEAR TRIED TO BREAK INTO GMAIL INBOXES OF AT LEAST 200 REPORTERS, PUBLISHERS AND BLOGGERS AS EARLY AS MID-2014 AND AS RECENTLY AS A FEW MONTHS AGO. THE HACKING APPEARED TO TARGET PRIVATE EMAILS THAT COULD BE USED AS LEVERAGE.
WASHINGTON (AP) - MOST AMERICANS SAY SEXUAL MISCONDUCT IS A MAJOR PROBLEM IN U.S. SOCIETY WHEREVER PEOPLE GO TO WORK, TRAIN OR LEARN, AND TOO LITTLE IS BEING DONE TO PROTECT VICTIMS. THAT'S ACCORDING TO A NEW POLL BY THE ASSOCIATED PRESS-NORC CENTER FOR PUBLIC AFFAIRS RESEARCH. THOSE SENTIMENTS HOLD SWAY WITH WOMEN ACROSS PARTY LINES AND A MAJORITY OF MEN, BUT ONE GROUP, 52 PERCENT OF MALE REPUBLICANS, SAY NOT ENOUGH IS BEING DONE TO PROTECT THE ACCUSED.
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - LONDON'S ROYAL PHILHARMONIC ORCHESTRA SAYS IT WILL RELEASE PRINCIPAL CONDUCTOR CHARLES DUTOIT FROM UPCOMING CONCERT OBLIGATIONS WHILE SERIOUS ALLEGATIONS OF INAPPROPRIATE CONDUCT ARE LOOKED INTO. THE ORCHESTRA SAYS IN A STATEMENT FRIDAY THIS DECISION WAS REACHED "JOINTLY" WITH DUTOIT. THE STATEMENT COMES ONE DAY AFTER THE ASSOCIATED PRESS REPORTED THAT THREE OPERA SINGERS AND A CLASSICAL MUSICIAN SAY DUTOIT SEXUALLY ASSAULTED THEM. HE HAS NOT RESPONDED TO THE ALLEGATIONS.

A FEDERAL JUDGE SENTENCED A GILLETTE MAN ON WEDNESDAY TO 45 YEARS IN PRISON FOR TWO COUNTS OF PRODUCTION OF CHILD PORNOGRAPHY.
CHIEF U.S. DISTRICT COURT JUDGE NANCY FREUDENTHAL HANDED DOWN THE SENTENCE TO SIXTY-FOUR-YEAR-OLD CHARLES MATHISEN IN CHEYENNE.
MATHISEN PLEADED GUILTY IN AUGUST TO TWO COUNTS OF PRODUCTION OF CHILD PORNOGRAPHY, AND IN EXCHANGE, PROSECUTORS AGREED TO DROP FIVE OTHER COUNTS OF CHILD PORNOGRAPHY PRODUCTION AND TWO COUNTS OF POSSESSION OF CHILD PORNOGRAPHY.
FREUDENTHAL RECOMMENDED HE BE PLACED IN A FEDERAL PRISON FOR TREATMENT AND TO PROTECT HIM FROM BEING PREYED UPON BY OTHER INMATES.
IF HE MANAGES TO BE LIVE TO 109, MATHISEN THEN MUST REGISTER AS A SEX OFFENDER.
THE CASE BEGAN IN MAY 2016 WHEN THE GILLETTE POLICE DEPARTMENT BEGAN THE INVESTIGATION OF A SEXUAL ASSAULT OF A PREPUBESCENT GIRL, AND POLICE ARRESTED MATHISEN ON A CHARGE OF FIRST DEGREE SEXUAL ABUSE OF A MINOR.
POLICE FOUND A COMPUTER, DIGITAL CAMERA AND OTHER ELECTRONIC DEVICES WITH VIDEOS HE TOOK WHEN HE WAS ASSAULTING THE GIRL.
THE GOVERNMENT REGARDS CHILD PORNOGRAPHY AS A CRIME OF VIOLENCE BECAUSE IT INVOLVES SOMETIMES BRUTAL ASSAULTS ON CHILDREN WHO CANNOT GIVE CONSENT TO SEXUAL ACTIVITY.

A WOMAN PLEADED GUILTY TO THREE FELONY COUNTS OF CHILD ENDANGERMENT WITH METHAMPHETAMINE IN NATRONA COUNTY DISTRICT COURT ON WEDNESDAY.
AMBER CARPIN ENTERED HER PLEA DURING HER ARRAIGNMENT BEFORE JUDGE DANIEL FORGEY, WHO ORDERED A PRESENTENCE INVESTIGATION AND WILL SET A SENTENCING DATE LATER.
CARPIN'S ATTORNEY AND THE PROSECUTOR ASKED FORGEY TO CHANGE HER $5,000 BOND TO A SIGNATURE BOND SO SHE COULD BE RELEASED FROM CUSTODY TO GET TREATMENT.
FORGEY AGREED, NOTING HER MINIMAL CRIMINAL HISTORY, BUT SAID THE CHARGES ARE SERIOUS.
IF CARPIN'S CASE HAD GONE TO TRIAL, AND SHE WAS CONVICTED ON ALL COUNTS, SHE COULD HAVE FACED UP TO 15 YEARS OF IMPRISONMENT.
CAPRIN WAS ARRESTED IN EARLY NOVEMBER AFTER CASPER POLICE RESPONDED TO A CALL FROM THE WYOMING DEPARTMENT OF FAMILY SERVICES TO WHERE SHE AND THE FATHER OF THE YOUNGEST OF HER THREE CHILDREN WERE LIVING.
HER NEW-BORN CHILD WAS FOUND TO HAVE METHAMPHETAMINE HER BODY AT BIRTH, AND CARPIN HAD MISSED HER FIRST APPOINTMENT WITH HER DOCTOR.
POLICE FOUND NUMEROUS ITEMS WITH METHAMPHETAMINE AND MARIJUANA IN THE RESIDENCE.
THE DEPARTMENT OF FAMILY SERVICES TOOK CUSTODY OF THE CHILDREN.
