AN INTERPRETER AT THE NATIONAL HISTORIC TRAILS INTERPRETIVE CENTER HEARD TWO CHARGES OF RECEIPT OF CHILD PORNOGRAPHY -- CHARGES RELATED TO AN ONGOING INVESTIGATION -- DURING HIS INITIAL APPEARANCE IN FEDERAL COURT ON MONDAY.

SHAWN WADE APPEARED FEDERAL COURT IN CASPER, AND MAGISTRATE JUDGE KELLY RANKIN CONDUCTED THE HEARING BY TELECONFERENCE FROM FEDERAL COURT IN CHEYENNE.
CONVICTION OF EACH OF THE IDENTICAL COUNTS IS PUNISHABLE BY FIVE YEARS TO 20 YEARS OF IMPRISONMENT AND FIVE YEARS TO LIFETIME SUPERVISED PROBATION UPON RELEASE FROM CUSTODY.

WADE REMAINS IN CUSTODY.

THE GOVERNMENT HAS FILED A MOTION TO HAVE HIM HELD IN CUSTODY UNTIL HIS TRIAL BECAUSE HE IS A FLIGHT RISK, AND THE PROBABILITY THAT HE COMMITTED THE CRIME OF CHILD EXPLOITATION.

HE WILL APPEAR FOR HIS DETENTION HEARING AND PRELIMINARY HEARING ON WEDNESDAY.

IN OUTLINING THE CHARGES, RANKIN SAID WADE ALLEGEDLY RECEIVED CHILD PORNOGRAPHY IN SEPTEMBER 2015 AND DECEMBER 2017.

BUT THE CRIMINAL COMPLAINT DETAILING THE CASE IS UNAVAILABLE TO THE PUBLIC SO FAR.

WYOMING U.S. ATTORNEY MARK KLAASSEN FILED, AND RANKIN APPROVED, A MOTION TO SEAL THE COMPLAINT BECAUSE MAKING THE COMPLAINT PUBLIC COULD COMPROMISE EFFORTS TO IDENTIFY KNOWN AND POTENTIAL TARGETS AS WELL AS OTHER RESPONSIBLE FOR CHILD PORNOGRAPHY OFFENSES.

WADE TOLD THE COURT THAT HE WORKS FOR THE U.S. BUREAU OF LAND MANAGEMENT, WHICH OPERATES THE NATIONAL HISTORIC TRAILS INTERPRETIVE CENTER.

THE GOVERNMENT REGARDS CHILD PORNOGRAPHY AS A CRIME OF VIOLENCE BECAUSE IT OFTEN INVOLVES SOMETIMES BRUTAL ASSAULTS ON VERY YOUNG CHILDREN WHO CANNOT GIVE CONSENT TO SEXUAL ACTIVITY.

THE MAN ACCUSED OF KIDNAPPING A 95-YEAR-OLD CASPER WOMAN AND LEAVING HER IN THE TRUNK OF HER OWN CAR FOR SOME SIX HOURS EARLIER THIS YEAR ENTERED GUILTY PLEAS TO THREE FELONY CHARGES AS PART OF A PLEA AGREEMENT.

21-YEAR-OLD KYLE MCCABE MARTIN PLEADED GUILTY TO CHARGES OF AGGRAVATED KIDNAPPING, AGGRAVATED ROBBERY AND AGGRAVATED BURGLARY. THE KIDNAPPING CHARGE IS PUNISHABLE BY 20 YEARS TO LIFE IN PRISON, WHILE THE OTHER TWO CHARGES CARRY PENALTIES OF FIVE TO 25 YEARS IN PRISON.

IN EXCHANGE FOR THE THREE GUILTY PLEAS, NATRONA COUNTY DISTRICT ATTORNEY MIKE BLONIGEN AGREED TO DISMISS THREE OTHER CHARGES INITIALLY FILED AGAINST MARTIN. IN ADDITION, BLONIGEN WILL NOT ASK THAT MARTIN RECEIVE A LIFE SENTENCE ON THE KIDNAPPING CHARGE, AND WHATEVER SENTENCES HE RECEIVES ON THE THREE CHARGES TO WHICH HE PLEADED GUILTY WILL RUN CONCURRENTLY.

MARTIN WAS ON THE RUN ON THE MORNING OF MARCH 21 WHEN HE RAN INTO AN ACQUAINTANCE. THAT PERSON RECOMMENDED THEY BREAK INTO THE VICTIM'S HOUSE AND STEAL HER CAR.

MARTIN SAYS HIS ACCOMPLICE USED A REPLICA PISTOL TO HIT THE VICTIM BEFORE SHE WAS BOUND WITH DUCT TAPE AND PUT INTO THE TRUNK OF HER OWN CAR, WHICH MARTIN AND THE OTHER MAN THEN STOLE. MARTIN DROPPED HIS ACCOMPLICE OFF BEFORE HE WAS ULTIMATELY APPREHENDED BY POLICE.

THE VICTIM, HOWEVER, REMAINED IN THE TRUNK OF HER OWN VEHICLE FOR SOME SIX HOURS AFTER SHE WAS KIDNAPPED. MARTIN, WHILE IN POLICE CUSTODY, CALLED HIS MOTHER AND TOLD HER TO NOTIFY POLICE OF THE SITUATION.

POLICE FOUND THE VICTIM, ALIVE, IN THE TRUNK OF THE STOLEN VEHICLE. SHE HAD TO BE HOSPITALIZED FOR ROUGHLY TWO WEEKS.

FOLLOWING MONDAY'S COURT HEARING, BLONIGEN TOLD REPORTERS THAT MARTIN'S ACCOMPLICE HAS NOT YET BEEN IDENTIFIED.

WILKING ORDERED MARTIN HELD WITHOUT BOND PENDING SENTENCING.

THREE PEOPLE WERE ARRESTED SATURDAY AFTER LEADING POLICE ON AN EARLY-MORNING CAR CHASE AND OFFICERS ENDED UP FINDING METHAMPHETAMINE, SYRINGES AND A HANDGUN INSIDE THE CAR.

35-YEAR-OLD MARLAINA RENEE MAY WAS BOOKED INTO JAIL ON RECOMMENDED CHARGES OF METH POSSESSION, DRIVING WITH A SUSPENDED LICENSE, ATTEMPTING TO ELUDE POLICE, INTERFERENCE, LITTERING AND A PROBATION REVOCATION.

23-YEAR-OLD AUSTIN BRADY MARTIN AND 47-YEAR-OLD JAMES BARTON WALL WERE EACH BOOKED ON A RECOMMENDED CHARGE OF METH POSSESSION.

CHARGING PAPERS SAY SHORTLY BEFORE 3 A.M. SATURDAY, A CASPER POLICE OFFICER SAW A SILVER AND SPRAY-PAINTED BLUE HONDA PULL OUT OF THE MOCHA MOOSE PARKING LOT AT 15TH AND CY AVENUE. THE HONDA DIDN'T USE A TURN SIGNAL, AND IT MADE A WIDE TURN INTO THE FAR LANE OF WESTBOUND CY AVENUE.

THE OFFICE TRIED TO STOP THE VEHICLE, BUT IT TOOK OFF. POLICE SAY A BAG OF METH WAS THROWN FROM THE DRIVER'S SIDE WINDOW BEFORE THE VEHICLE TOOK I-25 TO THE EAST SIDE AND ENDED UP IN THE PARKING LOT OF THE C'MON INN.

THE DRIVER TOOK OFF AFTER STOPPING AT THE MOTEL, BUT MARTIN AND WALL WERE BOTH ARRESTED.

HYPODERMIC NEEDLES CONTAINING METH AND A .22-CALIBER HANDGUN WITH A LOADED MAGAZINE WAS FOUND IN THE VEHICLE.

A BACKPACK IN THE TRUNK OF THE HONDA CONTAINED A WALLET BELONGING TO MARLAINA MAY, PAPERWORK BELONGING TO MARTIN AND A BAG OF CLEAN SYRINGES.

THAT NIGHT, AT ABOUT 8:30 P.M., A JAIL OFFICER AT THE NATRONA COUNTY DETENTION CENTER REPORTED THAT MAY HAD SHOWN UP AT THE JAIL TO POST MARTIN'S BOND.

MAY TRIED TO CONCEAL HER IDENTITY, BUT WAS ULTIMATELY IDENTIFIED AND ARRESTED.
