People now read more than ever. But what we read and how we get it has changed. Most folks are hooked on the screen in their hand, not on a book, magazine, or newspaper. There used to be newspapers, magazines, and bookstores all over. Now they are a rare find.

So it's good to see a new bookstore opening in Wyoming.

The bookseller Barn's & Noble has sent out the following press release:

Casper's first Barnes & Noble Booksellers location is a 13,000+ square-foot store located at 600 Newport Road (Blackmore Marketplace) on the east side of town. The soft opening begins the first week of July 2026, with a grand opening planned for August 2026

They have even launched a Facebook page just for the new Casper store.

They don't just sell books at the new store. If you're into vinyl records, they will have a section for that, too.

If you want a sneak peek, the store is scheduled to soft open on or around Wednesday, July 8. A grand opening event will be held on Friday, Aug. 7.

A soft opening (or soft launch) is a preliminary, limited-run event where a new business opens its doors to a small, select audience—such as friends, family, or VIPs—before its official grand opening. It serves as a low-stakes "dress rehearsal" to test operations, train staff, and catch flaws.

Yes, people still love finding a good book in print and sitting down to enjoy the marvels they find on real paper. There is something extra special about a book, or a vinyl record, and they make great gifts.
