Bighorn Elk Fire Community Meeting Scheduled
Regular meetings are being held in the area around the Elk Fire in Wyoming.
Everyone is welcome to attend for the latest update on the battle against the fire and what residents can do to help.
As you likely saw earlier today, the #ElkFire was actively putting up smoke in multiple areas during the heat of the day.
To assist firefighters on the ground, there were 18 air resources, such as helicopters and air tankers, being utilized on this incident today.
Thank you to the community of Story and the Story Volunteer Fire Department for inviting incident managers and cooperators to join you at a meeting this evening.
We hope you will all join us for the next community meeting in Big Horn on Wednesday night.
Please be aware that there will be heavy traffic of equipment being used in fire suppression operations in Red Grade Road in the coming days.
Red Grade Road will be fully closed as of 5 p.m. today
In cooperation with the incident management team, the Sheridan County Sheriff and Bighorn National Forest; cabin owners were granted permission along Red Grade Road to access their property the past two days.
Most of Highway 14 across the Bighorns is closed due to fire and smoke danger. Plus the amount of fire equipment moving in the area.
However, beginning at 5 p.m. today, officials have asked all cabin owners to be off the road and out of their property.
Over the next few days, Red Grade Road will see an increase in firefighting equipment and personnel and the roads in that area need to be clear for them to do their work safely and efficiently.
Any vehicle(s) contacted on this portion of Red Grade Road, may constitute enforcement action by law enforcement
