PhotoFest! State Track Day #2
The State High School Track and Field Meet rolled along in Casper on Friday with some breezy conditions but that didn't stop the athletes from breaking more state records. On the girls' side, Taliah Morris of Cheyenne East is having quite a meet. On Thursday, she set the overall state record in the long jump, and on Friday, she set the overall in the 100-meter dash in the preliminary round in 11.68. That record stood since 1998, set by Arnetta Simpson of Cheyenne Central. Morris also set the overall record in the 200-meter dash in the prelims in 23.70. She also ran the anchor leg on the east 4x100 relay team that placed 2nd.
Torrington's Brooklyn Asmus set the 3A record in the 100-meter dash in 11.81 and briefly held the overall record until Morris exceeded that mark. Torrington also set the 3A record in the 4x100 relay in 48.81. Wheatland's Lily Nichols set the 3A record in the long jump with a leap of 18-9.50 and won the 800 meters as well.Harper Boche of Southeast tied the 1A record in the shot-put with a toss of 41-8.75
On the boy's side, Big Horn's Gavin Stafford is in the middle of an outstanding meet. On Thursday, he set the 2A record in the long jump, and on Friday, he set the 2A and overall record in the 100 meters in 10.31 and the 2A and overall record in the 200 with a clocking of 21.16.
