Landon Walker of Kelly Walsh Sets Overall Triple Jump Record
Landon Walker of Kelly Walsh has owned the 4A Outdoor Triple Jump in track and field for the last 3 years. After winning state titles in his sophomore and junior seasons, he ended his prep career on a high note with a leap of 50 feet, 8 and 3 quarter inches which set a new overall state record. Stephen Michael of Laramie held the record, which was set in 2008, and was eclipsed by Quincy Paris of Midwest at 48-10 on Friday, then eclipsed again by Walker on Saturday.
Walker hit that 50-8.75 mark on his 3rd attempt of the day after leaps of 48-6 and 49-1.75. He finished the competition going 50-6, and a sizeable audience was paying very close attention to this event, which made the atmosphere electric.. As it turns out, Gage Brooks of Natrona also broke the Michel record as well, going 49-3.
Walker also won the 4A Long Jump at 24-1.25 and also took the top of the podium in the 4A Indoor Triple Jump in 2025 at 48-8. He had a 49-7 jump at the Wyoming Track Classic, so jumping 50 feet+ was certainly in the realm of possibility.
We talked with Walker about his historic day, and he was soaking it all in.
