PhotoFest: Wyoming Indian Captures 2A Boys Basketball Title
Wyoming Indian is no stranger when it comes to winning basketball state championships with 6 of them in the last 15 years. The Chiefs returned to the 2A State Tournament after not qualifying for 3 straight seasons and showed a lot of poise on Saturday in Casper with a 48-42 win over Lusk to claim the championship trophy.
Wyoming Indian had a rough night from the perimeter as they were 1-18 from the 3-point line but made up for it with an intense defensive effort. Lusk had a rough offensive performance in the 2nd half going 3-18 from the floor and for the game, the Tigers were 2-13 from the land of 3. Wyoming Indian put the game away with free throws down the stretch and were led in scoring by Darwin Gambler with 15 points. Heeyeniniitou Monroe-Black chipped in 11 as the Chiefs won a state title for the first time since 2020. They finished the year 24-6.
Lusk was led by Nathan Miller with 18 and Corey Bruegger added 12, The Tigers posted their first winning season since 2015 and wrapped up the campaign at 20-8.
