You Better Not Throw Rocks At Turkeys In Casper
Earlier this week, there was a discussion about whether or not you could "eliminate" turkeys causing issues in your yard if you live inside the city limits of Casper.
This has long been a discussion that has been covered many times.
If you're having problems with the turkeys, contact the Wyoming Game and Fish Department or the City of Casper. Last spring, WGFD removed around 140 turkeys in a trapping program to reduce the number of birds in city limits. Authorities are aware of the issue and continue their efforts to ease the situation.
Our discussion continued, and the person who initiated it mentioned using a BB gun or slingshot to eliminate the turkey causing the issues.
The answer is no.
DO NOT SHOOT THE TURKEYS INSIDE CITY LIMITS 9.44.030
No person shall discharge any firearm, bow, crossbow or slingshot that shoots or ejects a bullet, pellet, arrow, BB, dart or other projectile by explosion, gas propulsion, spring propulsion or by any other means of propulsion, within the limits of the city
It's not a good idea to chuck a rock at the bird because that's prohibited. Especially if you have bad aim. 9.44.010
No person shall throw any stone or other missile upon or at any building or any public or private property, or upon or at any person or upon or at any vehicle, within the city.
While we're on weapons, you should know that Wyoming is an open-carry state. It allows citizens who are at least 18 years old and legally entitled to carry firearms.
Carrying a firearm is one thing, but there's a list of other weapons that are not legal to carry around the city. 9.44.020
It is unlawful for any person not being a law enforcement officer, while in the city, to wear or carry any switch-operated knife, fixed blade of any length or folding knife with a blade in excess of four inches from the hilt, pistol, sword-in-cane, rifle or any other dangerous or other deadly weapon concealed, except as provided by Wyoming State Statute; and provided further, that this prohibition shall not apply to any weapon actually concealed by a carrying case especially constructed for such weapon when being openly transported.
