Wyoming Offers Summer Camps For Fishing, Hunting, And More
It's never too early to start planning your family's summer activities. Actually, if you wait too long, you may be out of luck on some opportunities offered by the Wyoming Game and Fish Department.
We've discussed the summer camp options available with WGFD's Janet Milek many times on Wyoming Hookin' & Huntin' Outdoors. These camps range from learning the skills needed for outdoor activities like hunting, fishing, camping, and hiking to the science and education aspects of the outdoors.
Nine camps are being held this summer at the Whiskey Mountain Conservation Camp near Dubois, and they all have limited availability. Let's break down the type of camps and who's eligible to go.
Adventure Camp - Helping families build their outdoor skills together. Ages 6+ (an adult must accompany children), no limit on the number of family members. $150 per person.
Youth Camps - Seven-day overnight camps for kids 12-15. Hands-on learning from WGFD personnel. There will be a camp for boys in June and for girls in July—$150 per kid.
Hunter Education Camp - Learn the basics of hunting and earn hunter education and bowhunter education certificates. The minimum age is 10, and an adult must accompany all kids. $150 per person attending.
Fishing Camp - Learn the art of both fly and spin cast fishing with hands-on experiences in both. The minimum age is 10, and an adult must accompany all kids. $150 per person attending.
Becoming an Outdoors-Woman (BOW) - Camp set to educate and offer adult women interested in the outdoors in a nonintimidating environment. There are two hands-on camps available this year—one in June and the other in August. $150 per person 18+. Individuals or groups (up to 4 people) may apply.
Beyond BOW - A new camp focusing on backpacking and fly fishing. The camp will be held at the end of July and is $150 per person 18+.
