If you like watching high-intensity sports, visit Saratoga, Wyoming, for the 9th Annual Saratoga Skijoring Races.

The first time I checked it out was in 2022—the memory from the first time watching the event stuck with me. So much so Saratoga is one of my favorite 'getaway' places in Wyoming.

Mark your calendars for the first weekend of February for the 9th annual Saratoga Skijoring Races.

Not only is watching the sport exceptional but if you think you have what it takes to compete, you can.

The Saratoga Skijoring Committee will vet all competitors for all divisions.

  • OPEN - 3D More experienced riders and skiers.
  • NOVICE/EXHIBITION CLASS (Beginners) Teams are considered to be new to the sport, beginning-level competitors riding horses that may not have enough speed to be competitive in the Open or Sport.  A team consists of horse, rider and skier, a skier can not ski behind the same horse more than once.
  • Youth - Noncompetitive fun run; one participant must be under 14.

The Saratoga Skijoring weekend begins Friday at the Historic Wolf Hotel with a welcome party. The action starts Saturday morning at the Bucks Springs Rodeo Arena/ Race Track, just outside town. On Saturday night, a Calcutta and party will take place at the Wolf Hotel, and then the action returns to the rodeo arena/ race track for a full day on Sunday.

It truly is a great weekend. You can attend a fun event, visit Saratoga Hot Springs, and enjoy all the town and area have to offer. When was the last time you explored Carbon County? It's a great part of Wyoming, and if you haven't had adventures there, you should. If you're looking at going, there's a great resource on the Discover Carbon County Wyoming website with all the places to stay, eat, and explore.
