If you ever had doubts that Casper isn't a charitable community, you should rethink that, especially regarding veterans. The HD Outdoors 'Clays for the Brave 2024' is in the books, and Casper showed up to make the event a huge success. Lindsey Stillwell, John Haid, Tom Whitmire, the members of HD Outdoors, and every volunteer's hard work didn't go unnoticed.

Twenty-six teams, with four shooters per team, and countless volunteers spent Saturday at Casper Skeet, Trap, and Sporting Clays to raise money for veterans. There were 14 stations, with up to eight targets.

Before this event, it had been years since I spent the day shooting clays, and I forgot how much fun it was to blast targets out of the sky. Over the weekend, many participants said the same thing, and I assume the membership numbers at the shooting club will increase over the coming weeks.

Except for the winners, they're all skilled shooters who spend lots of time on their form, technique, timing, and aim. If you were trying to describe what a 'stacked deck' looked like, the picture of the winning team would be a good definition. Two of the four shooters went to college on sporting clay scholarships; they are all competitive shooters. Between the four, they have shot a time or two and know their way around a shotgun.

Between the Calcutta on Friday night and the whole day of shooting on Saturday, HD Outdoors raised thousands of dollars to support hunting and fishing trips, recoil therapy, and the organization's mission to help Wyoming veterans.

The weekend, which started Friday night at the Hangar for the Calcutta & auction with auctioneer Colby Hales and wrapped up at Gruner Brothers Brewery for the awards, was perfect for shooting, sharing stories, and making memories with HD Outdoors.

If you didn't make it out this year, plan to be part of the event in 2025. You can also always find more information on the organization, make a donation, or find out how to volunteer at: HD OUTDOORS WYO.ORG
