I've always loved baseball and baseball stadiums. Over the years, I've had the chance to help build one, explore Major League and Minor League stadiums, and spend the day with the Casper Spuds at Mike Lansing Field.

Opening day 2024 for the Spuds was an exciting one. Over the last couple of years, I've gotten to know Paul and Kristi Hack, who are part owners of the team. They invited me to be onsite as they finished preparing for the season. The day didn't disappoint.

Spending the day at the ballpark is like being out on an early morning hunt or fishing trip. When you get there, things are peaceful and quiet.

Then you see players, coaches, and ballpark staff start to move around.

Then, the exciting sounds and smells of the ballpark begin. The crack of a bat during batting practice, the smell of hotdogs and popcorn, the sound of a baseball cracking into a glove, and then the fans pour through the gates.

Opening day 2024 was even more exciting when the Spuds started scoring early and continued to score and handle the Spearfish Sasquatch in a 12-6 win in game one.

I mentioned that I loved ballparks, and I thank the Spuds and Spearfish for allowing me to hang around all afternoon. I saw both teams taking batting and fielding practice, putting on their game faces, and bringing excitement to all the fans in the stands.
