Casper Police Building Takes Shape Downtown
We're still easing into November, but October was a great month, and the new Casper Police Department building's progress report deserves a peek.
If you're not familiar, the building on the southeast side of First and David Streets in downtown Casper is becoming CPD's permanent home. The department has been rooming with the Natrona County Sheriff's Office in the Hall of Justice for nearly 50 years.

As time has gone by, CPD has grown and needs room to spread its wings. Currently, because of the department's size, not everyone can be in the same building. If you've ever worked at a company with multiple departments and lots of moving parts, it can be difficult when you're not under the same roof. The new building will address that issue and support future growth.
The project is being done in phases. We're currently in Phase II, with Phase III set to begin in 2027 and the project wrapping up in 2028. In the end, the final price tag for the entire project should be around $45.1 million (give or take).
Here is October's update from the City of Casper.
Utility Relocation and Site Improvements
Work also continues outside the building to prepare for construction of the secure garage on the east side. One utility provider has completed their relocations, while others are actively working with City staff to move the remaining infrastructure.
These relocations are necessary before the City can complete the formal process of vacating the adjacent alley and proceed with garage construction.
Separately, the City is evaluating structural repairs needed for the existing parking garage. The City will plan this work as an independent project.
Updated Construction Timeline
With Phase III now approved, the project has a more defined construction schedule. Phase II remains underway, with overlapping construction activities between Phases II and III expected to begin in December 2026.
The current schedule calls for substantial construction completion by October 6, 2028, with final completion tentatively scheduled for November 5, 2028, and the Department's move into the new facility anticipated by November 19, 2028. These dates remain subject to change as construction progresses.
Each phase brings Casper closer to a facility designed to better support employees, technology, and the specialized services needed to provide modern public safety. We look forward to continuing to share that progress with our community.
