LARAMIE -- Football season just got even closer.

Wyoming will kickoff the 2025 campaign at the University of Akron on Thursday, Aug. 28 inside InfoCision Stadium. The game was originally slated for the following Saturday. A reason for the move is unknown. Start times for any contests have yet to be announced.

This will be the first-ever meeting between the Cowboys and Zips.

Wyoming's home schedule gets underway Sept. 6 against Northern Iowa, followed by another Saturday tilt in Laramie against longtime rival Utah. Jay Sawvel's squad will close out the con-conference season Sept. 20 at Colorado.

Though dates are still uncertain, the Cowboys will host Mountain West mates Nevada, San Jose State, UNLV, along with Border War rival Colorado State, inside War Memorial Stadium.

CSU will make the move to the new-look PAC Conference after the '25 season and will become a mainstay on the non-league slate from 2028 through at least 2035 after the two schools consented to an 8-year scheduling agreement.

Both teams are currently working on amendments to schedules for the 2026 and '27 season for potential additions to the current arrangement.

The conference road slate consists of Fresno State, Hawaii, San Diego State and Front Range foe Air Force.

UTEP, which will join the Mountain West in the summer of 2026, is still listed on the Cowboys' future non-conference schedule in 2029. That game will eventually need to be replaced.

Spring football is scheduled to begin March 25.

University of Wyoming’s Top 50 Football Players

During the summer of 2021, 7220Sports.com counted down the Top 50 football players in University of Wyoming history, presented by Premier Bone & Joint Centers, Worthy of Wyoming.

The rules are simple: What was the player's impact while in Laramie? That means NFL stats, draft status or any other accolade earned outside of UW is irrelevant when it comes to this list.

This isn't a one-man job. This task called for a panel of experts. Joining 7220's Cody Tucker are Robert GagliardiJared NewlandRyan Thorburn, and Kevin McKinney.

We all compiled our own list of 50 and let computer averages do the work. Think BCS -- only we hope this catalog is fairer.
