Wyoming Governor Matt Mead has activated the Wyoming National Guard to assist in fighting the wildfire that has forced hundreds of families from their homes near Casper. This, according to an official release from the Governor’s Office sent Monday evening.

According to the Governor’s Office, Two UH-60 Black Hawk helicopters and their support teams are headed to Casper today. Governor Mead is also working closely to assist Teton County with the fire burning south of Jackson.

“I extend my gratitude to the firefighters battling these two blazes and my thoughts are with the families who have lost homes on Casper Mountain,” Governor Mead said. “This has been a record fire season, conditions are still dangerous statewide and the people of Wyoming continue to respond and support those in need.”

Hundreds of homes near Casper have already been evacuated. Evacuation advisories have been issued in Teton County.

Governor Mead has sent a member of the Wyoming National Guard to Jackson to assist the Teton County Emergency Management team and be on hand if further assistance from the state is needed.
