Literacy was the dominant theme for Wyoming First Lady Carol Mead's visit to Casper Monday. Starting the day at Evansville elementary she served students breakfast as they prepared for a day of PAWS Testing, then she went on to the Natrona County Public Library for a tour.

Lunchtime was spent with the Casper Rotary Club addressing a full house on a Scholastic summer-reading literacy program. Mead says her focus on literacy comes out of her work with CASA-Court Appointed Special Advocates- and the struggles of young victims of abuse and neglect.

"I guess what I came to after that last experience is that we can help children in those situations when they're in acute difficulties, but to try to help them for a life time, I think the way we're gonna do that is by sustained education."

Mrs. Mead wrapped up the day at the Literacy Volunteers of Casper 25th Annual Appreciation Banquet.
