BREAKING: Wyoming Big Man Nate Barnhart Enters Portal

LARAMIE -- The 60-day transfer portal window has been open for roughly four hours.

Two Wyoming basketball players have already jumped into the fray.

Nate Barnhart is the latest Cowboy to announce his intent to transfer, joining guard Noah Reynolds. Despite leaving the program in early February, Max Agbonkpolo, Ethan Anderson and Jake Kyman are also in the portal.

Wyoming now has seven available scholarships after Hunter Maldonado and Hunter Thompson exhausted their eligibility. The team also lost its lone signee in the 2023-24 class, California guard Makaiah Williams.

Barnhart, the 7-foot, 190-pound Kansas product, appeared in 20 games for the Cowboys during his redshirt freshman season. He made his first start in a road tilt at Air Force in mid-January. That night at the academy, Barnhart was a perfect 5-for-5 from the field, netting 11 points while playing a career-high 31 minutes.

"He did tremendous," UW's third-year head coach Jeff Linder said postgame. "He was a guy that played 30 minutes and didn't look tired the entire time. And that's a guy that hadn't been on the floor for a lot of minutes. For him to come out and do what he did was tremendous."

Barnhart also earned Mountain West Freshman of the Week honors after scoring 12 points in an 85-62 home win over Fresno State. He also added five points and three rebounds in the following game against San Jose State.

Barnhart's minutes drastically diminished down the stretch. He never played more than seven minutes in any of the Cowboys' final five outings, including an 87-76 setback against New Mexico in the quarter-finals of last week's Mountain West Tournament.

A three-star recruit out of DeSoto High School, Barnhart received only a handful of college offers after averaging 13.2 points per game, as a junior, to go along with 8.2 rebounds. Central Arkansas, Jacksonville, Northern Kentucky, Wisconsin-Milwaukee and IUPUI also extended offers.
