SHERIDAN, Wyo. (AP) — Officials on the Bighorn National Forest are urging campers to take precautions with bears.

Forest Service officials say a warden with the Wyoming Game and Fish Department euthanized a black bear after it was captured on Sunday in the Dayton Gulch area. The bear had received food from a camper earlier in the day and had returned for more.

There are black bears throughout the Bighorn National Forest. The Forest Service says proper food storage and clean camping techniques are important to avoid bear encounters.

The agency urges people to keep a clean camp and avoid feeding bears. People should store food and other items that have a strong odor in closed vehicles or other bear-resistant containers.
