Health Insurance Exchanges Biggest Help To Rural America

A new report about the coming “health insurance exchanges,” as part of federal health care reform, says the first thing everyone in Wyoming needs to know is - think of them as marketplaces, not exchanges. There could be confusion with the word "exchange" because a private company already uses that term for an insurance-selling portal in Wyoming. The Center for Rural Affairs study examined who is expected to benefit the most from the yet-to-come marketplaces.

Preexisting Conditions? No Problem.

Chronic health problems and no current insurance coverage are 'no problem' under the new Pre-Existing Condition Insurance Plan being offered in Wyoming.  Only a couple of dozen people have signed up for the insurance so far - the coverage is part of federal healthcare reform.   Marguerite Herman, with  Wyoming’s Consumer Advocates: Project Healthcare,  thinks folks just don’t know it’s available and many have stopped bothering to look.  "They can’t find insurance, or the insurance they can find is simply beyond their means. It’s not affordable to them."
