Former US Rep Offers to Underwrite Casper Hockey
CASPER, Wyo. (AP) — Former U.S. Rep. John Wold is offering to put up $1 million to help develop hockey facilities at the Casper Events Center.
The Casper City Council is scheduled to vote Tuesday whether to accept Wold's donation.
Wold's donation would cover about half of the estimated $2.2-million price tag for installing the ice rink and related equipment.
Wold's offer is contingent on Casper meeting certain conditions by Dec. 31. He wants the city to approve a franchise and lease agreement with a professional hockey team and commit to setting aside money for maintaining the rink.
The 97-year-old Wold played hockey at New York's Union College in the late 1930s.
