You are doing something of great importance to the world," Hagel told the group. Lest they sometimes doubt that importance, he said, "You have chosen a profession where there is no room for error — none."

Hagel added that the administration is committed to the missile force...

The United States will remain committed, strongly committeed, mintain this capable, effective, safe and secure nuclear deterrrent and we are going to invest in the modernization that we need to invest in to keep that deterrent stronger than it has ever been.

Hagel said he believes America's strong nuclear deterrent has done more to prevent another war than anything else. He urged the airmen to continue to hone their skills. He added he would do all he could to provide the resources necessary for them to do that.

Hagel was sworn is as Secretary of Defense on February 27th, 2013. He was the first enlisted combat veteran to lead the Department of Defense.
