Casper City Council decided to shelve its new full retail liquor license for the time being. At the work session Monday afternoon, Mayor Paul Bertoglio admitted the decision merely kicks down the road the question of how to issue the valuable license.

Council members are perplexed on how to handle what is potentially a coveted liquor license with an initial state fee of a mere 1500 dollars, but with an estimated resale value closer to 300 thousand.

Council has the additional option to offer it through a lottery or auction.

Meantime three new Bar and Grill licenses, now available thanks to a change in state law, will be offered with no change to the fee structure. Council however suggests that issuance of the licenses be split between the three city wards with the idea of balanced growth in mind.
