The city of Casper will make improvements to Hogadon Ski Area's main chairlift this off-season.

Casper City Council on Tuesday unanimously approved over $140,000 for the purchase and installation of a computerized electric drive and control system for the city-owned ski area's yellow chairlift.

Casper mayor Paul Meyer says the upgrade will bring the lift up to national safety standards.

“If we’re going to have a ski season next year, for insurance purposes and safety, this maintenance needs to be done,” Meyer said. “The vehicle needs new tires – that’s all there is to it.”

The city will pay for the upgrade through one-time funds set aside for Hogadon lift-safety improvements.

Boise-based Bald Eagle Ropeway will be tasked with installing the new drive and control system.
