Casper Remembers 9/11, Salutes Local Hero at ‘Scott Firefighter Combat Challenge’ [PHOTOS]

Moving and heart felt, the memorial tribute to remember the 10th anniversary of the 9-11 terrorist attacks which claimed 2819 lives as a world watched in horror.

Casper Fire Chief Mark Young addressed the large crowd that lined the sides of David Street in downtown Casper this morning. After a welcome, the crowd paused for a 30 second moment of silent prayer to remember all of those lost on that fateful day which included 343 Firefighters and Paramedics that were killed in the line of duty. The silence was broken with a Siren Tribute from all the represented fire engines in attendance that lasted 30 seconds.

Messages of support and appreciation of our public service personnel (Police, Fire, EMS) came from the Senator Barraso’s office, City Manager John Patterson, as well as a declaration from Casper’s Mayor Paul Bertoglio’s office declaring that September 11th, 2011 be known as “Patriots Day”.

Flags flying high and proud as Casper Fire Chief Young and the city presented the medal of valor to Craig Kidder. Kidder, a Casper fire fighter, was off duty at the time he aided in the rescue of a young woman from the frigid waters of the North Platte River on May 24th of this year. After Kidder witnessed a young woman in distress and unable to swim to shore, he drove his car to a point down stream and gained access to the river. Then without hesitation jumped into the cold and swift flowing river and was successfully able to secure and swim the young woman to shore saving her life.

The medal of valor was presented to Kidder in recognition of his bravery and efforts of going above and beyond in a time of emergency and in the face of danger.

As a result of the terrorist attacks 10 years ago, we as American’s enjoy safer communities as a result of the bravery of these young men and women who serve and protect us with vigilance. We thank them for their continued acts of heroism, not only on 9-11, but every day! Thank you for what you do!

September 11th, 2001 will never be forgotten!
