A friendly competition can be just the thing to get the blood going, so to speak.

The second annual Guns And Hoses blood drive, was held at United Blood services in Casper, on Thursday, August 21st.

It's a competition between the Casper Police Department and Casper Fire EMS to see who can get the most number of donors in for the day, and donors didn't have to be employed by either team to participate.

Mike Frigon with United Blood Services says similar events like this have been going in bigger cities for some time, and now it's worked its way to Casper.

However, he adds that you don't always need a competition, as a reason to give blood.

"These events just bring the awareness that blood is needed on a daily basis, and right now we're actually in an emergency need for O positive and O negative"

In the end, the Police Department won the competition 32-31.

The competition is now tied at one win each.
