Yellowstone Undertakes Update To Fire Management

YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK, Wyo. (AP) — The National Park Service is seeking public comment in how to manage wildfires in Yellowstone National Park.

The park has undertaken an effort to update its fire management plan to reflect recent changes in federal fire policy.

The Park Service is accepting public comments on identifying what issues should be considered in the environmental review of any proposed changes.

The process, known as public scoping, is now open and runs through Dec. 20. The park plans to hold a public meeting Tuesday evening in Cody and may hold other public meetings during the planning process.

Park staff members will analyze comments and then write the Environmental Assessment, which is expected to be released for public review and comment sometime during spring 2012. A final decision and plan is expected to be completed during summer 2012.
