PROVO, Utah (AP) — Troopers say a 74-year-old Wyoming man who stopped to change a flat tire was struck and killed by a passing vehicle in Provo Canyon.

The crash happened about 8:30 p.m. Tuesday on State Route 189 near Vivian Park.

Troopers say the Joseph Broadbent of Evanston had been driving a Dodge truck and towing a fifth-wheel trailer when he pulled to the side of the road.

Witnesses say he had walked to the left shoulder and was crossing back over to his truck on the right shoulder when he was hit by a silver Honda Accord.

Officials say that hit threw him into another traffic lane, where he was run over by a small pickup truck.

Authorities say it isn't clear why Broadbent crossed to the left side of the road.
