Wyoming Lottery Names First CEO

The Wyoming Lottery Corporation has announced the appointment of Jon Clontz as its new CEO. Clontz will leave his current position of Deputy Director-Chief Operating Officer with the Oregon Lottery to join the WLC. The Oregon Lottery was started in 1985 and generates over $1B in annual sales. Clontz, who has been with the Oregon Lottery for two years, will assume his new duties in Wyoming on October 7th.

Wyoming Lottery Board Chairman Brian Scott Gamroth, said,

We are excited to have Jon on board to take the WLC to the next step for the people of Wyoming. His leadership qualities, strong communication skills, and a proven track record of success with the Oregon Lottery give us great confidence in his abilities to get things done for Wyoming.

Clontz’ background includes business start-up experience. In the State of Washington, he supervised the construction and opening of a 300-bed VA Hospital, a start-up assignment with responsibilities for organizing new systems and operating policy from the ground up and serving that facility for two years. He was then promoted to Chief of Operations over all three Washington Veterans Homes for the next five years. He also served as Superintendent of Washington’s largest Veteran’s Home. A veteran of the United State Army, Clontz has a Masters Degree in Public Administration from The Evergreen State College and a Bachelors Degree in Psychology from St. Martins University. He has attended Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government. Jon, his wife Renee and son Max will be relocating to Cheyenne later this year.

The Wyoming Lottery Corporation was formed by the 62nd Legislature of the State of Wyoming and has been operating since July 1, 2013 under the direction of the nine-member board appointed by Wyoming Governor Matt Mead. The legislature earlier this year approved leglislation authorizing a lottery in Wyoming. Lottery officials hope to begin selling lottery tickets in the state early next year.
