Kelly Walsh Student in Police Custody After Bringing Gun to School

Casper Police responded to Kelly Walsh High School after school officials learned that a student had brought a gun to school.
The gun was reported to a faculty member at about 7:45 a.m. At 7:50 a.m. the suspected student was searched and a handgun was found in the student’s backpack. No other weapons were found when the student’s locker was searched.

The student has not been identified and remains in the custody of the Casper Police department.
Kelly Walsh principal Brad Diller responded through a school district press release.
It is important for us to remember that student’s are our best asset in keeping our schools safe. Thank you to our faculty, students, and CPD for such a quick and appropriate response.
In an interview with K2 Radio, principal Diller spoke highly of the students and faculty.
The whole thing from start to finish didn’t even take five minutes. No injuries, no threats. The person made a bad choice. We are proud of our students for reporting the weapon.
It is not yet known why the student brought the gun to school.
