She's a nun on the run...or at least she's pretending to be a nun, in the musical production of "Sister Act" set to open April 26th at Natrona County High School. The story, loosely based on the 1992 Whoopi Goldberg movie, begins when aspiring disco diva Deloris Van Cartier witnesses her much-less-than-angelic boyfriend murder one of his thugs, says Director and Theatre Instructor Zach Schneider.

"So she goes into the witness protection program in a convent, and the convent has fallen on hard times, their choir is absolutely atrocious. Although they love to sing, they can't sing a note," says Schneider. "So in order to be able to survive in this place with her sinful ways, she teaches the nuns how to sing and they become huge stars which kid of throws the witness protection into disarray, and so wackiness ensues."

He says the music is not the same Motown as the movie but instead features all new songs written by famed composer Alan Menken, who also wrote the music for "Beauty And The Beast", "The Little Mermaid", and "Little Shop Of Horrors" among other notable scores.

There are 30 students in the cast, and many more working behind the scenes and in the orchestra. "This is a really fun show, it features a lot of our really talented female actresses. There some good male parts, too, but the ladies are on display with this one," says Schneider. "I'm constantly amazed that we have such talented high school students in Casper, Wyoming."
