POWELL, Wyo. (AP) — A 31-year-old Powell man accused of providing heroin that led to the death of a neighbor has pleaded guilty.

Christopher J. Nichols pleaded guilty last week to a felony count of delivering heroin. He had initially been charged with negligent homicide.

Nichols admitted to giving 30-year-old Jeremy W. Ernest the drug in December 2013. Ernest later died of an apparent overdose.

The guilty plea is part of a plea deal with the Park County Attorney's Office. In return, prosecutors say they will ask for no more than 5 to 8 years of prison time.

Nichols remains free on a $15,000 bond while awaiting sentencing.
