The Natrona County Sheriff's Office is warning the public about a scam, in which people could be tricked into thinking that deputies are coming for them.

A Sheriff's Office spokesperson says a report was recently taken from a citizen, who said he received a call from an unknown person, claiming to be with the Sheriff's Office, and that there was a warrant for the citizen's arrest.

The unknown caller said to avoid being arrested, the citizen needed to pay a fine of almost $500, by way of a green dot card, and then give the number of that card to the caller.

The citizen complied with the request, and then realized he had been tricked.

Other reports have surfaced on Facebook of the same nature.

The Natrona County Sheriff's Office says anytime anyone requests money, by way of a green dot card...it might be a scam.
