LANDER, Wyo. (AP) — Fremont County will hold a special mail election to pick one of its county commissioners because of a mistake made in Tuesday's election.

Election judges in one precinct gave out 30 ballots to voters who shouldn't have voted in the district two commission race. Only 20 votes separated the two candidates so the county canvassing board threw out the election results.

County clerk Julie Freese told the Associated Press that the mistake was probably made because of the number of number of "split" ballots in some precincts. Some voters were within the boundaries of one county commission district but others voting in the same precinct live in another county commission district.

About 3,000 ballots will be sent out to voters because of those 30 ballots mistakenly distributed this week.
