“This was on U.S. 16, about four miles northwest of Osage, which is in Weston County, about 8:20 pm, it involved two vehicles that were westbound on U.S. 16.”
Sgt. Townsend said that Thorne was a passenger in a vehicle hit from behind by a pickup driven by Dwane Canfield of Upton, and that the setting sun might have been a factor in the crash.

“The roadway in that area is uphill and at a hill-crest, so the setting sun was making for very poor visibility, apparently, and the rear vehicle didn’t see the vehicle in front of him, which was traveling at a slower speed and he rear-ended that vehicle.”
The crash is still under investigation.
