The Clerk/Treasurer of the Town of Mills, Lisa Whetstone, was placed on indefinite administrative leave Thursday, according to a press release from the mayor.

Mayor Marrolyce Wilson also said in the press release the town is correcting accounting problems found by the Wyoming Department of Audit that led to the Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation further looking at the books and the indictment of Whetstone for embezzlement-related crimes this week:

"I as the Mayor of the Town of Mills want to assure our community that we have taken the State of Wyoming Audit very seriously and have implemented any and all recommendations the auditors had for us. We have put policies and procedures with checks and balances in place to prevent this from happening in the future.

"I want it known that I have cooperated fully and will continue to cooperate fully with the investigation and charges brought against Mrs. Whetstone until this case is solved.

"At this time Mrs. Whetstone is on administrative leave indefinitely."

The DCI agent who filed the affidavit about the investigation in Natrona County Circuit Court said Wilson and Whetstone told Mills Town Hall employees they would be disciplined and placed on probation if they assisted law enforcement.

A receptionist at the Mills Town Hall said Wilson was out of the office Friday.

Wilson has not returned calls seeking comment.
