A homeless man pleaded guilty in Circuit Court in Casper Wednesday to a charge of voyeurism. Pleads guilty at initial appearance:

Wayne Lee Schmidt, 30, of the Casper area, pleaded guilty before Circuit Court Judge Michael Huber.

Schmidt was arrested after his estranged wife found photos and videos of herself on Schmidt’s cell phone.

According to the police affidavit, on June 2nd Schmidt held his cell phone over a dividing wall at Suntan USA and recorded video his wife changing her clothes.

The next day, Schmidt allegedly placed his cell phone in his wife's car and recorded video of her in an attempt to catch her cheating on him.

The couple married 11 years ago and separated after three months, but neither of them ever filed for a divorce. They reconnected approximately one month ago.

At the initial appearance, Schmidt admitted to taking the two cell phone videos and said he was motivated by paranoia. Assistant District Attorney Brian Christensen recommended a suspended 6-month jail sentence.

Judge Huber concurred and sentenced Schmidt to 6 months in jail, with the sentence suspended in lieu of supervised probation. Judge Huber also waived court costs and a fee to the victim's compensation fund.
