WASHINGTON (AP) — The secretary of the Army for six years during the Vietnam War, Stanley R. Resor (REE-zor), has died at the age of 94. Resor died Tuesday at his home in Washington, D.C. Resor was 11 when he and family friends visited Jackson Hole, Wyo. He persuaded his father to buy a cattle ranch there, beginning a lifelong tie to the area.

CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) — A fourth day of training is planned for today for the Wyoming Air National Guard as they prepare for this year’s fire season. Guard members have sharpened their firefighting skills this week with four training flights a day Monday through yesterday. They flew between their Cheyenne airport base and a practice range 100 miles away, dumping a few thousand gallons of water on premeditated targets.

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (AP) — Mesa County commissioners in Colorado are urging federal officials to extend a comment period on a plan for oil shale development on public land. The U.S. Bureau of Land Management has proposed slashing the amount of land potentially available for oil shale development in Utah, Wyoming and Colorado. The deadline for public comment is May 4.

DENVER (AP) — Sens. Michael Bennet of Colorado and Roy Blunt of Missouri have proposed appointing an advocate for rural communities facing post office closures. The idea comes as their chamber mulls a bill to stabilize the financially-strapped institution. Gov. Matt Mead has protested the possible closure of up to 43 post offices in Wyoming. That’s about a third of all outlets in the state.
