CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) — Cheyenne lawyer Kate Fox has been named to the Wyoming Supreme Court.

Gov. Matt Mead on Thursday announced his choice of Fox to succeed retiring Justice Barton Voigt, who will serve until early January.

Fox is 58 and a partner at the Cheyenne law firm Davis & Cannon. She has worked in employment law and natural resource law.

Fox graduated top of her class at University of Wyoming College of Law and clerked for U.S. District Judge Clarence Brimmer after graduation.

The state’s Judicial Nominating Commission had forwarded Fox’s name and those of Cheyenne lawyers Patrick Day and Robert Tiedeken to Mead for consideration.

Fox will be the second woman to serve on the Wyoming Supreme Court. Current Chief Justice Marilyn Kite was the first woman on the court.
