A Mills man accused of killing a 7-month-old baby pleaded not guilty Tuesday in Natrona County District Court.

Listen Here:

19-year-old Matthew Hankins was charged with felony murder after authorities found an unconscious infant  in the home of Hankins’ girlfriend- whom he was living with at the time of the incident.

Authorities allege that Hankins became angry with the child for crying, shook the baby's head until the cries stopped, gave him a bottle and then went to sleep.

The Casper Star-Tribune reported that during a preliminary hearing in May, a detective testified that Hankins smoked marijuana and took five anti-anxiety pills before the death of the child on April 20th.

If convicted, Hankins could face life in prison.
