A fire apparently started near a wood-burning fireplace, and the response by Casper Fire-EMS required closing the already construction-clogged area of Poplar CY Avenue on Thursday evening.

"Sometime after the dinner hour, we responded to a fire, 14th and Poplar area," Casper Fire-EMS spokesman Justin Smith said.

"We arrived to find flames coming out of the structure," Smith said. "Crews entered and were able to put the fire out rather quickly. No injuries, no one was transported to the hospital."

The massive construction in the area made access difficult, but they arrived within 10 minutes, and roughly five minutes after that, the fire was under control.

Poplar Street was closed from 12th Street to CY Avenue, and side streets were closed, too.

There were two women in the home at the time of the fire, and they got out with no serious injuries.

It apparently started when one of the women lit a fire in the fireplace, and while she was out of the room, it spread.

The fire remains under investigation, Smith said.
