Two children trapped under an ATV that overturned into Bates Creek were rescued thanks to the help of a Wyoming Highway Patrol officer.

Trooper William Kirkman over heard the dispatch call from Ratter Q Ranch off of Hwy 487 south of Casper on April 25th around 7 p.m.

The caller reported two children, ages 3 and 10, were trapped in the creek, full of spring runoff, with the ATV on top of them.

"Apparently only their heads and faces were above the water line and the mother was unable to lift the 4-wheeler up and get the young children out from under it"

Sergeant Steven Townsend says Trooper Kirkman was on scene within a few minutes, waded into the creek up to his waist and despite the soft, deep mud, assisted the mother in getting the kids out.

The children were treated for hypothermia and the three-year-old was life flighted to Wyoming Medical Center with a broken leg.
